Smog Attack This was an illustration created for my BA illustration course. It was based on an article which described the effect smog has on the inner city environment. The final composition depicts some people being choked by the 'hand of smog' and being seved by a couple of angels holding a golden gas mask. I took the opportunity to experiment with concepts and composition that I wouldn't normally gwet away with in commercial work.

Book Heaven This was created for a project undertaken for my BA Illustration course on the theme of 'Book Heaven'. We were asked to created a series of illustrations which could be put on display either in a shop or as part of a larger campaign. As such they had to be striking an colourful.

My response was to move away from the the obvious idea of angels sitting on clouds reading books and try a more thought provoking and deviant slant on the theme. Whilst still making them colourful and bold I tried to make my illustrations more suited to an adult audience by questioning the brief's theme.

Character Design

These are some examples of characters I have designed for various self promotional and personal work that I do in my spare time. The characters are a good indication of the direction that my illustration is moving in.

Co-operative Group These illustrations were created for one of the Co-op's e-learning packages. The theme was 'Health & Safety'. The client requested that a main character be designed to guide the learner through the learning experience.

I had to decide on the illustration style, colour palette amd composition. I tried to keep the illustrations as clean and bold as possible, using a generic background style to further the impact of the foreground elements.

1977 vs

Created for my MA course, this is an illustration for a project called Your personal journey through cultural time. I was asked to create a sequential narrative which included four artifacts that had a personal meaning for me. The four atifacts had to be a piece of text (mine was A Scanner Darkly by Philip K Dick), a piece of film (Close Encounters of the Third Kind), an image (the Atari logo) and a piece of sound (God Save the Queen by the Sex Pistols). I chose to base the illustration and the four artifacts around the year I was born - 1977 - and decided to create a street scene which included references to the artifacts and other cultural symbols of the era.
